Q 4) Solve the following ( 3 marks each)

1. Ravi purchased 5 kg 400 gm rice, 2 kg 20 gm sugar and 10 kg 850 gm flour. Find the total weight of this purchase

Solution: Total weight of purchase = rice weight + sugar weight + flour weight

Convert all gm to kg we get rice = 5.4 kg

sugar = 2.02 kg

flour = 10.85 kg.

Adding all we get = 5.4 + 2.02 + 10.85 = 18.27 kg total weight

2. The total number of animals in five zoos as follows:

Prepare a pictograph to represent the below information ( take the scale 1 picto = 10 animals)

Scale 1 picture = 10 animals

              ?  ===== 50 animals

? = 50/10 = 5 picures

Therefore Zoo A ==5 pictures

Zoo B ===8 pictures

Zoo C ===12 pictures

Zoo D = 9 pictures

Zoo E ===5 pictures

3) Express in decimals

i) 725 paisa = 7.25 Rs

ii) 70 km 5 mt = 70.005 km

iii) 3750 gm = 3.750 kg

4) A room is 4 mt long and 3mt 50 cm wide. How many square meter of carpet is needed to cover the floor of the room?

Solution: First convert everything to one unit i.e mt

3 mt 50 cm = 3.5 mt

Area of room = l x b = 4 x 3.5 = 14 mt2. Thus 14 mt2 will be the area of the carpet required to cover the floor.

5) Taking Sarita's present age to be x years

i) What will he her age 5 years hence (i.e in future) = x + 5

ii) What was her age 3 years back = x-3

iii) Her grandmother is 6 times her age. What is the age of her grandmother? = 6x

6) Draw a line segment AB. Mark any point on it. Through M draw a perpendicular to AB. (Use ruler and compasses)
