Marks 25      Time: 45 Minutes

Q 1. Choose the correct option from the following:

1. Pick out the mixed fraction for the improper fraction 12/7 is

a) 1 5/7

b) 1 2/7

c) 2 1/7

d) 7 1/2

    1

------------

7 | 12

   -  7

---------

    0 5

Therefore mixed fraction = quotient x (remainder/ divisor) = 1 5/7

2. The simplest form of 150/60 is

a) 3/2

b) 5/2

c) 3/4

d) 5/3

Solution:  First cancel zero in numerator and denominator and we get the fraction 15/6

Find HCF of  15 and 6          3 | 15

                                            5|  5

                                              |  1

we get 3 x 5

                                              2 |  6

                                              3 |  3

                                                |   1

we get 2 x 3

Here common factor is 3 so HCF is 3

Now divide the numerator and denominator by (15/3)/( 6/3) = 5/2

3. 3 minutes are what fraction of an hour?

In 1 hour we have 60 minutes so fraction we get 3 (minutes)/ 60 (minutes) In fraction units should be same hence we convert hour to minutes.

3/ 60 = 1/20

a) 9/12

b) 1/20

c) 6/20

d) 1/15

4) 1/2 is written in decimal notation as

 2| 10 | .5

  -  10

-----------

     00

Here quotient is 0.5 hence 1/2 is nothing else but 0.5

a) 0.25

b) 0.5

c) 0.05

d) 0.005

5) 65 paisa is written in decimal as Re.

Just cross multiply to get the answer

1 Re =====  100 paisa

? Rs  ====== 65 paisa

? x 100 = 65 x 1

?   = 65 x 1/100 = 65/100 = 0.65  Here we have converted fraction 65/100 to decimal as 0.65

a) 0.65

b) 6.5

c) 0.065

d) 0.0065
