Q 2) Solve the following:

1) Find the sum by the suitable arrangement.  1962 + 453 + 1538 + 647

Answer: 1962 and 1538 have last numbers whose sum is 10 ( 8 + 2=10)

so adding 1962 + 1538 = 3500

Similarly 453 and 647 have last numbers whose sum is 10 ( 3 + 7 = 10) so we get

453 + 647 = 1100

Adding 3500 + 1100 we get 4600

2) Find the product using suitable properties 258 x 1008

258 x (1000 + 8) = 258 x 1000 + 258 x 8

258000 + 2064

= 260064

3) Draw rough diagram of a)  Open Curve b) Close Curve

curve

4) The sum of -217 + (-100) is

when you have two - sign then you have to add and then place - sign in front of the answer.

217 + 100 = 317

Place - sign in fron of 317 we get -317 this is the answer

5) To stitch a shirt of 2 mt 30 cm cloth is needed. Out of 50 mt cloth how many shirts can be stitched and how much cloth will remain.  (THIS QUESTION IS TOO TOUGH FOR STD VI)

Answer: Convert all the units to lower units that is from mt to cm.

Now one shirt cloth needed is 2 mt and 30 cm. So 2 mt = 2 x 100 = 200 cm adding 30 cm to 200 cm we get 230 cm.

Now for one shirt you need 230 cm of cloth

We have 50 mt of cloth so that is 50 x 100 = 5000 cm of cloth.

Now cross multiply

1 shirt ======== 230 cm of cloth

? shirts ========= out of 5000 cm of cloth

? x 230 = 5000 x 1

? = 5000/230 = 21.7 shirts.

So we cannot have 21.7 shirts so it is 21 shirts.

Now 0.7 shirt is the remaining cloth. So let us find out amount of cloth

1 shirt ==== 230 cm of cloth

0.7 shirt === ? cm of cloth remaining

0.7 x 230 = ? x 1

? = 161 cm of cloth will be remaining.

6) Write four negative integers greater than -20.

Answer: -19,-18,-17 and -1

7) Give reasons:

1) A square can be thought of a special rectangle.

Answer: In Rectangle opposite sides are equal so is in the square, hence we say square is like a rectangle

2) A rectangle can be thought of a special parallelogram

Answer: In parallelogram opposite sides are equal and parallel so is in the rectangle hence we can say rectangle and parallelogram are similar.
